NUTS 2021 files

Individual files, grouped by format. To get all files of one scale and format in a single archive, use the zipped packages.

Files by format

How files are named

theme_spatialtype_resolution_year_projection_subset.format

For example NUTS_RG_01M_2016_3035_LEVL_0.geojson or CNTR_BN_01M_2016_3035_INLAND.geojson.

theme
4-character code of the theme, for example NUTS.
spatialtype
  • BN: boundaries (multilines)
  • RG: regions (multipolygons)
  • LB: labels (points)
resolution
60M, 20M, 10M, 03M or 01M: the map scale the data is generalised for (1:60 million to 1:1 million).
year
The year of the dataset, for example the year of the NUTS regulation.
projection
4-digit EPSG code:
  • 4326: WGS 84, coordinates in decimal degrees
  • 3035: ETRS89 Lambert azimuthal equal-area (centre E52 N10), coordinates in metres
  • 3857: WGS 84 Web Mercator (auxiliary sphere), coordinates in metres
subset
Depends on the dataset. Without a subset code, the file contains everything. Common cases:
  • NUTS levels: LEVL_0 (countries), LEVL_1, LEVL_2, LEVL_3
  • Country boundaries: INLAND (inland boundaries) or COASTL (coastlines)
